What's new in 2012

02.2012

• Hawaii Five-O studios:

I'm back at Hawaii Five-0 studios to do ADR for my scene. An extra line is added. So now I have 6 lines vs 5! Yay. Beefing up my role. LOL.

The show is season #2, episode #17: 'Kupale'. It airs this Monday, February 20th. 10/9 central time. Here's a press release I found online.

• Leahi Hospital, Diamond Head:

Shooting a health video for the Department of Education. I play the role of a Physical Therapist to a stubborn elderly patient. Two days of shooting. Day one we shoot at Leahi hospital and the second day, it'll be at some other facility. So far, all is going well.

01.2012

Hawaii Five-O shoot:

It was my first real role in a TV show and I had a scene with two of the show's stars. ...I won't lie, it was rough. You know there are so many people counting on you to do your job- director, cast, crew, your agent and casting director... all the people who believed in you to get to this point. Whether it's one line, 5 or a big scene the pressure to perform your best is there.

Booked a principal part in a Foodland -Hawaii commercial! Woot! It was a night (to wee hours in the morn...) shoot but I was alongside rows of groceries, awesome people, a chill director and I enjoyed it!

Special mahalos to my agent, Nazarene, Rachel Sutton and Anna Fishburn for their strong support this month! Without them, these awesome opportunities wouldn't have been possible.

Incidentally, the Actor's Gym with Eric Nemoto has started up again! (6-8P Wednesdays at ADR Agency). I'll be pinch hitting Eric's class into my normal schedule with Scott. I get so much out of working out in Eric's; I'm stoked.

Returned to South Korea for a job interview at the prestigious Keimyung University, teaching Media Arts. Good news- I got the job ; bad news- I declined the offer. Wanted to stay in Hawaii a few months longer to continue with my acting classes and see where it led. I do miss traveling however, and when/if my travel blog runs dry of stories and the pennies run out, I may have to reconsider a return. For now, as Koreans say... fighting! ;-)

11.2011 Actor's Training:

Back with ADR Agency. Enrolled and training in acting scene study at Scott Rogers Studio. Woot! I love the classes. The man is genius!

Incidentally, I've also started up snorkeling, kickboxing, boxing and Zumba to rock-n-roll time.

09. 2011 Back home to Hawaii:

After a year in Korea and 7 months backpacking India and Southeast Asia, I'm finally back in the U.S.A. How does it feel to be home? ...

Talk about culture shock!

Vientiane, Laos: Fear Factor with a spoon of deep-fried crickets!

Malaysia: Street food and veggie shishkabob in Kuala Lumpur.

Delhi: With one of India's brilliant artists- not does he do mendhi, but he's carved... like a gazillion wooden blocks of intricate & gorgeous Indian designs, hindi mantras, etc... Wanna find the world's most interesting jobs? Go to India.

Bali, Indonesia: After snorkeling, I'm at Turtle Island playing with turtles, feeding beer to a baby monkey and petting an iguana.

08.2011 South Korea: directing musicals for kid's summer camp.

I'm working at a musical summer camp in Yeoju. I get to dance on stage again (my first love), but my actual job is to produce, direct and choreograph Korean elementary kids in musicals, like Ali Baba and Peter Pan!

5 days to sculpt 20 students (2nd to 4th graders) into an English performance. Try directing kids when English isn't their first language! That's acting! But kids always surprise you-- they pull things off at the last minute, even when you think they haven't been paying attention. I'm proud of everyone of my students!

A few pics from the Eduvisor team:

Korea's big into "role playing" classes.  Their rooms are set up with very real props. I'm playing hospital; we've got a patient bed, eye chart, wheelchairs, stethoscopes, ...  Just wait 'til I get to the "traffic cop" room!

With kids, you need trigger words for casting.  For instance, I say "mafia" and my naughty ones are jumping to be pirates! Emotional preparation for them wasn't hard.

Peter, the fairies are dying...

Yup, I direct PG-13 "fairy killing" too, if you'd like to hire me.

Here's a sample of that production (video).

07.2011 Diving in Ko Tao, Thailand:

A spur of the moment idea led me to getting my PADI open water diving certification. Diving ? I need to start planning my travels around it. There's nothing in the world like it!

o4.2011 Getting my Yoga Teacher's Certification in Dharamsala, India:

India's not an easy country to backpack as a solo female, but it makes you feel alive! Life isn't easy here, but the culture is scented with the spice of passion. ... And a bit of craziness.

Been in India for three months, taking a month in Dharamsala for my Yoga Teacher's Training Certification program. I got sick , got into a motorbike accident and got blessed by the Karmapa (which is like another branch of Dalai Lama). I'm loving the grit, the Indo/Tibetan life and am enjoying the Land of OM.

Doing yoga at the Taj Mahal

01.2011 South Korea meeting Jeju Island's Haeneyo

What's haeneyo? They're Jeju Island's "Korean mermaids" (read here) and are well, uh... UNESCO site on their own! They inspire me!

These gals, mostly over the age of 50 years, dress up in rubber suits and take a boat out on the ocean to dive each day in search for shellfish to sell. They don't use oxygen tanks but have learned how to hold their breath underwater for long periods of time. The thing is finding them. I went hunting for them on one of my trips to Jeju and here they are!
